Ingredients

Bread Ingredients

  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  • Stir in the vegetable oil and salt. Mix well to combine.
  • Gradually add in the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours).

Baking

  • Punch down the dough, then divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a loaf.
  • Place the shaped loaves in greased bread pans, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes until the loaves are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
  • Remove from the pans and let cool on a wire rack. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

For a softer crust, brush the loaves with melted butter right after baking. Add herbs or cheese for extra flavor. Substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat for a healthier option. Use honey instead of sugar for a different sweetness profile. This bread can be frozen; slice it first for easy serving later.
