Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients and Additions

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries Do not thaw if using frozen.
  • 3/4 cup milk Can substitute with buttermilk.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk until well blended.
  • Cut in the cold, cubed butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Carefully fold in the blueberries, taking care not to crush them.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the milk and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir gently until just combined.

Baking

  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it holds together. Pat it down to about 1-inch thickness and cut out biscuits with a round cutter.
  • Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until they’re golden brown.
  • Let them cool slightly before serving and enjoy warm!

Notes

For extra richness, substitute milk with buttermilk. Add lemon or orange zest for a citrus twist. Biscuit dough can be formed and frozen; just bake straight from the freezer, adding a few minutes to the baking time. Serve warm with honey or maple syrup for an indulgent treat.
