Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 lbs Potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet) Choose starchy potatoes for the best texture.
  • 1 head Garlic Fresh is best for maximum flavor; to be roasted.
  • 4 Tbsp Butter Use unsalted for better control over seasoning.
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream or milk For extra creaminess.
  • 1 tsp Salt To enhance flavors.
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper For seasoning.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Peel and cut your potatoes into equal-sized chunks to ensure even cooking.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Wrap a head of garlic in aluminum foil and roast for about 30–35 minutes until soft and caramelized. Allow it to cool slightly before squeezing the cloves out.
  • Place the peeled and chopped potatoes in a large pot, cover them with cold water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes.

Mixing and Mashing

  • Drain the potatoes in a colander and return them to the pot. Use a potato masher or a ricer for a smoother texture.
  • Add the roasted garlic, butter, and warm cream or milk. Season with salt and pepper. Stir until creamy and smooth.
  • Give your mashed potatoes a taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently, adding a splash of milk or cream to revive the creamy texture. For variations, consider adding herbs or cheese.
