Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda

Wet Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Ensure butter is very cold for fluffiness.
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can substitute with milk mixed with vinegar.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Whisk until well blended.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Pour in the buttermilk and mix gently until just combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.
  • Use a floured biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  • Let the biscuits cool slightly on the pan before transferring them to a wire rack.
  • Serve warm with butter or your favorite jam.

Notes

For extra fluffiness, ensure your butter is very cold. You can substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat for a healthier twist. Try adding shredded cheese or herbs for flavor. Make drop biscuits by spooning the dough onto the baking sheet instead of using a cutter.
