- 4 cups fresh cherries pitted and halved
- 1 cup sugar divided
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour for topping
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract optional
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a bowl, mix fresh cherries with 1/2 cup sugar. Set aside.
In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 1/2 cup sugar.
Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients; stir until just combined.
Pour cherry mixture into the baking dish.
Spoon the batter evenly over the cherries.
Bake for 35 minutes or until topping is golden brown and cherries are bubbling.
Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
