Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups fresh cherries pitted and halved
  • 1 cup sugar divided
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour for topping
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, mix fresh cherries with 1/2 cup sugar. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 1/2 cup sugar.
  • Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients; stir until just combined.
  • Pour cherry mixture into the baking dish.
  • Spoon the batter evenly over the cherries.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until topping is golden brown and cherries are bubbling.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe cherries for the best flavor.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Can be made gluten-free by substituting flour with a gluten-free mix.
