Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast

Wet Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the warm water and vegetable oil.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir well until everything is combined, forming a shaggy dough.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Rising

  • Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Once risen, punch the dough down to release air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  • Cover the loaf with the towel again and allow it to rise for another 30 minutes, or until it has risen above the rim of the pan.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a softer crust, brush the top with melted butter right after baking. You can add 1 cup of whole wheat flour for a healthier twist or incorporate herbs for extra flavor. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
