Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (heat-treated) Ensure it's heat-treated for safety.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Must be softened for easy mixing.
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed Packed tightly for accurate measurement.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adds sweetness and texture.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor enhancement.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness.

Mix-ins

  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips Add for chocolatey goodness.
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Optional for added texture.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Prepare a square baking pan (8x8 inches) by lining it with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until creamy and well blended.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract and salt until fully incorporated.
  • Gradually add the heat-treated flour to the mixture until a dough starts to form. It may look crumbly at first, but keep mixing until it’s combined.
  • Fold in the mini chocolate chips and any optional nuts until they’re evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Press the dough mixture firmly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing out the top with a spatula.
  • Refrigerate the bars for at least 30 minutes to set properly.
  • Once chilled, lift the bars out of the pan using the parchment overhang. Cut into squares or rectangles, up to your preference.

Notes

Serve chilled or slightly warm. Great with vanilla ice cream or drizzled with melted chocolate/caramel. These bars freeze well for later enjoyment.
