  • 1 cup celery chopped
  • 1 cup onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 teaspoons dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 to 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley chopped (optional)

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and celery, sautéing until softened (about 5 minutes).
  • In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread and sautéed vegetables.
  • Sprinkle the dried sage, thyme, salt, and pepper over the mixture.
  • Gradually add the chicken or vegetable broth until the bread is moist but not soggy.
  • Stir in chopped parsley if desired.
  • Transfer the stuffing to a greased baking dish.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown on top.
  • Serve warm and enjoy the comforting flavors.

Notes

You can prepare the stuffing ahead of time and refrigerate before baking. Add extra broth if it looks dry before baking. For variations, use different types of bread, add chopped apples or cranberries, or top with nuts for added crunch.
