  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream Can substitute milk if desired.
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Place the softened butter in a large mixing bowl.
  • Beat the butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until it’s creamy and smooth (about 1-2 minutes).
  • Gradually add in the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed to prevent a sugar cloud.
  • As the mixture thickens, add in the heavy cream and vanilla extract.
  • Continue to beat until the frosting is light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  • If the frosting seems too thick, add a bit more heavy cream. If it’s too thin, incorporate more powdered sugar.
  • Finally, mix in a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness.

Notes

Serving can be done by spreading it generously over cakes or cupcakes. For garnish, consider using sprinkles or fresh fruit.
