Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450g chicken breast, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper thinly sliced
  • 4 slices provolone cheese or American cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls or Amoroso rolls
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: hot sauce or mushrooms for extra flavor

Instructions

  • Prepare the chicken: Thinly slice the chicken breast into strips. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Cook the veggies: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and green peppers. Sauté until soft and slightly caramelized (about 5–7 minutes). Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • Cook the chicken: In the same skillet, add remaining oil and cook the chicken strips until fully cooked and lightly browned (about 6–8 minutes).
  • Combine: Return the sautéed onions and peppers to the skillet with the chicken. Mix well and cook for 1–2 more minutes.
  • Add cheese: Place slices of cheese over the chicken and veggies in the skillet. Cover the skillet for a minute or two until the cheese melts.
  • Toast the rolls: Lightly toast the hoagie rolls to add a slight crisp texture.
  • Assemble: Spoon the cheesy chicken and veggie mixture into each toasted roll. Add optional toppings like hot sauce or mushrooms if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add sliced jalapeños or hot sauce.
  • Substitute provolone with Cheez Whiz for an authentic Philly taste.
  • Serve with fries or a side salad for a complete meal.
